school's out!! woohoo

Woohoo!! I know I have been saying ‘finally’ in my posts too often but this time it’s different. I have never been too excited to say it than today, because FINALLY, school’s over.

This semester has been extra difficult. Because I had my sight on entering the dean’s list again after failing to do it for the previous two sems by a mere .03 point. I have also promised myself that I will graduate cum laude. I know, it is a tall order. But I am gonna do it for myself, for my family, and for God. I want this to be my thank you gift to myself and the others I have mentioned.

This week has been one of the longest weeks of my life. I served as the editor in chief of our class paper, Thomasian Chronicler, for our finals in our copy-reading and lay-outing class. It was work, honey. I thought it was going to be easy and I felt really guilty because at first, I was just delegating my classmates their assignments. But it turned out that it would take more than just that.

It was exams week but I stayed up to the wee hours of the morning, not to review, but to edit my classmates’ articles. I would then wake up early to review for my exams. I could not risk not reviewing. Remember, I had to do well.

Today was our scheduled submission of the publication. It still had kinks until the very last minute. Thank God, when we had finished printing the paper, our professor was still not in the campus.

Although not perfect, Thomasian Chronicler still made me proud because it’s 3jrn1’s baby. We worked hard for it. The paper has also brought out the best and worst in me.

I know, I have scolded some of my classmates, shouted at them, called them names, felt irritated and many others. But those were brought out by stress, sleepless nights and anxiety.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the people I have hurt. I hope you understand. And again, classmates, thank you for making one of my dreams come true—one dream that I was all set to perform in V, but I had to let go because there were still more important things I had to do.

Nga pala, ‘yung mga bayad niyo ha!! Hehehe!! See you on clearance day!!

Another exciting project that we did last week was our fashion catalogue for our photo journalism class.

I thought it was going to be easy since I am familiar with the assignment, having been exposed to a lot of fashion magazines and fashion spreads in newspapers, and of course, America’s Next Top Model. Yeah right!!

However, our prof had another thing in mind. He wanted us to do a catalogue of native wear.

So here are some of the pictures we took:

Jewel’s one-angle pose is very popular among our classmates. Haha!!

This is my favorite of Ja-Ne. The girl’s got technique.

I took the pics above but they never made the catalogue. Sad. I still believe that these are two of the best pics of the girls.

Siyempre dapat kasali ako. Tanikala took this shot.

In the end, our group only got 85. I still believe we should have received a higher grade. Our classmates shared the same notion.

I now have time to sleep without worrying!! Yehey!!

Smile naman d’yan. God bless us all!!

pautakan turns 30; meeting callalily

Varsi held the 30th Pautakan Quiz Show yesterday. Pautakan is the longest-running inter-collegiate quiz show in I don’t exactly know where. And yesterday was my first time to witness it. The Faculty of Arts and Letters, having won the title for five consecutive years, have been installed to the Hall of Fame and incidentally was not allowed to join the quiz show this year.

So The Faculty of Medicine and Surgery won the title in the Group Division while the representative from the College of Nursing took home the crown in the Individual Category.

Congrats to the winners and savor your titles for next year, our Faculty will be back. Hehehe!!

Although I am no longer part of Varsi, I still pursued with my assignment of inviting the band Callalily to perform in the event.

Inviting the band was stressful because I had to make sure that things went smoothly. Plus it was also my first time to sign a contract naming me as the show’s producer.

The band was scheduled to perform at 4:30 PM yesterday, but due to some delays caused by protests from contestant and a member of the panel arriving super late, the band had to wait for almost two hours.

I was really embarrassed because they arrived on time. But they were really nice most especially the band. Those who irritated me more were the members of their entourage, surprisingly. But the band and their road manager were really nice.

So while they were performing, I cannot help but be amazed by the band and be proud of myself as well. I managed to pull it off. Kean, their vocalist, was an amazing singer. Lem is a really superb drummer. Ang galing. Alden, their lead guitarist was also outstanding. Aaron, the look-a-like of Yael’s older brother was pretty quiet. While Tatsi(?) that tall guy with the long hair, looked better in person. Hehehe.

I accompanied Kean, Alden, their roadie, and a member of their entourage to dinner hosted by Varsi. Unfortunately some members of the band had to leave early because they had other appointments. Alden talked to me all throughout his dinner. He was really mabait and he was really smart. And Kean? Need I say more? The guy was a total hottie.

Now, I can say that I am a big Callalily fan. I might as well buy their album. Hehe. Too bad I did not even get to take a picture of myself with them.

Callalily—amazingly superb. A bunch of good-looking, nice, and really talented guys.

The UST Journalism Society elections were held last week. I already told you that I was running for Public Relations Officer. And fortunately, I won.

I would like to thank all those who voted for me, most especially my classmates who really supported me. Thanks, guys!!

Last Sunday, as I attended the Mass, I prayed to God that I might never waste the chance given to me by my fellow Journ students.

Smile naman d’yan. God bless us all!!

ramblings after a hiatus

Yeah, yeah. I have been on a hiatus for quite some time. I have been really busy these past few weeks with our thesis, our newspaper, our projects, and all those things. Add to that the fact that blogspot changed settings so that kinda discouraged me to get my posts flowing.

Another reason is that I am busy campaigning for myself as I am running for JournSoc PRO. I thought it was going to be easy since my perception of a PRO’s job is just to fix the bulletin board. But hearing what the others who are running have to say, made me realize that I am in for a really tough job. I have to be serious with this so as to perform well for the Society and not waste the trust the students will give me.

Wish me luck. And if you are a member of the UST JournSoc, please vote for me. Hehehe!

Vote for Ivan Angelo de Lara as JournSoc’s PRO!! Thanks!!

Still on the topic of elections, the national election is fast approaching. And it’s sickening to see the faces of politicians on television and on spaces, free or not, where they can post their faces.

I was not able to register as a voter since I was still guessing whether Chacha would be approved by the country’s lawmakers and consequently, no elections should be held in 2007.

Please do not vote for Lino Cayetano. Media coverage showed how active he was in criticizing the Arroyo government. But other than that, records showed that he was not really an effective lawmaker.

As I am typing these, my lola’s watching Sana Maulit Muli. Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson are sickening. They are not really that good looking. And puhhhhleassse, they do not have any talent whatsoever.

Season 2 of Pinoy Big Brother has already started. It opened with only six housemates because, according to the producers, they did not want to crowd the house. It’s about time—and it’s only fair—that they field in the other housemates because it’s already getting pretty boring. More housemates mean more exciting dynamics in the house.

Because of my being busy these days, I have not been able to really think about boys, or an interesting love life. I am surprised. I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Smile naman d’yan. God bless us all!!
